Meet the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles
Ostional is famous for the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle, locally known as the Tortuga Lora.
This remarkable species is known for an extraordinary natural phenomenon called the Arribada, when thousands of sea turtles arrive together on the same beach to nest and lay their eggs.
Ostional is one of the most important mass-nesting beaches in the world, with some arribadas bringing tens or even hundreds of thousands of turtles to its shores.
When Can You See the Turtles?
Turtle nesting occurs throughout the year, with arribadas generally happening once or twice a month, often around the lunar cycle.
The exact dates are unpredictable, making every encounter with these incredible animals truly special.
Sunset & Early Evening: A beautiful time to experience Ostional's coastline, with opportunities to observe nesting turtles when conditions allow.
Early Morning & Sunrise: Another wonderful opportunity to witness turtles returning to the ocean or nesting along the beach.
